How to Take the Perfect Wonder-Gram

It's without a doubt that Canada’s Wonderland is one of the most photogenic spots in Ontario. In fact, it earned a place on Canada’s Top 10 Most Instagrammed Locations list for the past two years. With stellar views of Wonder Mountain and momentous coasters, there are so many unique photo ops to choose from.

If you’re looking for ways to capture that perfect Instagram shot, look no further. We’ve got some tips and tricks to help. Bonus: you won’t even need to lug your DSLR to the park with you!

Phone Camera Tips

Burst Mode: Speed at Canada’s Wonderland is an asset we definitely take pride in, after all, we have some of the fastest rides in Canada! But it can be frustrating if you’re trying to capture some great still shots of a moving coaster.

Thankfully, your phone’s “burst mode” is great for capturing those action shots. By holding down the camera button, you’ll be able to take multiple shots within different frames to capture the ideal image.

To Zoom or Not To Zoom?: Depending on where you’re situated in front of your subject, it’s important to know that zooming in for a close-up almost always creates a blurry picture! The more you zoom, the more pixilated your image will look.

Try to overcome the urge to zoom in to any subject and be as close as possible to the people/objects you’re shooting.

Editing Apps: Instagram is a great place to start with the basics. However, don’t overdo it. Some people find that with all these great editing elements at their fingertips, they must include everything. (I know I’ve been guilty of this.) But this might make your image look distorted and unrealistic.

If you’re trying to capture real-life images, playing around with one to two editing elements is ideal. Remember, simplicity goes a long way.

One element that works wonders for amateur photographers is the cropping tool. By cropping your image, you can create a much more dynamic picture. And as per my previous point, cropping is much more effective than zooming.

For example, below are two versions of the same image. If you take a closer look, you’ll see that one of them is cropped. While both were captured in the exact same spot, they still give off two different vibes.

*Please remember, for the safety of our guests and associates, cameras of any kind are not permitted on rides. Never enter restricted areas, and please obey all posted signs, gates and fences.

Photographing within the Park

Timing:  We all know that timing is everything. But did you know the best times to take photos in an amusement park are in the morning or an hour before sunset? Why? Because there will still be natural sunlight but without the blinding glare that will hide your subjects.

By taking photos at these times, you increase your chances of a more natural look with a good balance of brightness from the sun.

Be Prepared: Always have your phone ready at all times (but NOT while you’re on a ride). You never know when Snoopy will make an appearance or when a cool photo opportunity will arise.

Background Patrol: As you’re walking around the park, it’s beneficial to keep an eye out for good photo spots.

For example, one of Flight Deck’s greatest elements is its stunning 90-degree turn drop which is a perfect angle for an interactive background shot where the ground meets the ride.

Professional Pics

For those who don’t enjoy taking photos, do not fear! Canada’s Wonderland has you covered with FunPix, a convenient way to capture, collect and share all of your professional park photos from your day.

With FunPix, you get unlimited digital downloads of all your photos. This includes captures from our roaming photographers, selected on-ride photos, PEANUTS character photos and any of the FunPix photo spots located throughout the park!

If you follow these quick and easy tips, you’ll surely receive all the likes when it comes to your next Instagram post.

So come out to Canada’s Wonderland and start capturing the thrills!
